Job Description

 Purpose

The role involves overseeing the exploration, mining, and metallurgical operations of ZCCM-IH's existing and potential greenfield and brownfield mining processing projects, while driving business expansion and value enhancement.

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts data analysis, collation and storage of physical field samples that pertain to the scientific evaluation of the exploration areas.
  2. Recommend acquisition or disposal of leases based on integrated geological and geophysical information.
  3. Interpret technical data, finalize maps and support data and evaluate risks
  4. To conceptualize Mining Operations by evaluating mining methods and operating parameters that can be employed to economically mine or exploit a mineral deposit.
  5. To lead development and implementation of framework for economic participation in new mining ventures to spearhead the evaluation process by following standard evaluation procedures in the selection of new economically viable mining projects.
  6. To conduct strategic technical studies of engineering and business options available to ZCCM-IH to make recommendation to Management.
  7. Conduct technical auditing of subsidiary and investee companies to ensure subsidiaries and investee companies are operating in conformity with the regulatory requirements of the mining laws and ensuring that operations adhere to acceptable technical standards.
  8. Formulate and implement value addition partnerships as well as to carefully integrate machinery, labour and financial operations support and other support to subsidiary companies.
  9. Carry out technical evaluation of potential investment opportunities to ensure only technically sound third-party investments opportunities are considered by ZCCM-IH for investment such as checking viability of the mineral resource/reserve estimation, which was undertaken, licencing and environmental regulatory compliance, technical viability of mining methods being deployed etc.
  10. Ensure extraction and processing of ores are conducted efficiently, sustainably, and profitably.
  11. To lead development and implementation of framework for economic participation in new mining venture to ensure the overall success of the venture.
  12. To prepare and review annual plans and budgets as well as to provide support for exploration, mining and processing activities for the technical department.
  13. To prepare reports in line with agreed timelines for internal use for submission to management
  14. Lead the section budgeting process to provide value driven budgeting process that enhances the implementation of the company’s strategic plan.
  15. Monitor the budget performance within the Precious Metals and Minerals Section.
  16. Identify areas of cost improvements by providing identified initiatives within the Precious Metals and Minerals Group
  17. Ensure prudent utilisation of company resources in the department.
  18. Monitor the compliance and maintenance of the company resources.
  19.  Perform any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

GCE/Grade 12 qualification with at least credit passes in English, Mathematics and Sciences.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining, Mineral Processing and or related field.
Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and or Geological Society of Zambia (GSZ)

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum of 4 years in a mining or related industry

Experience in the various stages of the mining value chain, including the development processes for the resources and reserves.

Worked in technical role at supervisor level with experience to supervise multidisciplinary teams.
